CrossFit Gymnastics
Jennifer was never your typical athlete. But very much the typical mom who did not work out for many years. After a childhood of all sorts of sports, swimming, gymnastics, volleyball etc hitting the hard world of adulting where the options were the full college experience or go to a weightlifting gym with all the big weighlifters? It was a hard no. Fast forward to post kids and the post pregnancy weight gain she and a friend had a short time in a less intense gym losing some weight but then quit when they reached their goals (sound familiar?)
After more years of small business ownership, busy kids schedules and lack of free time a burned out stressed out Jennifer decided to take back some control. Only to find success was not going to come easy.
Reading an article on My Fitness Pal, "The One Thing You Need to do to Be Successful in Working Out". For whatever reason that day that article hit home. The advice? You have to schedule it in your day every day... forever. That seemed like good advice and instead of jumping into an all or nothing program or self imposed expectation, she set only these rules. Pick a time of the day and go to the gym and put on the gym clothes. After than anything that happened would be a bonus. Coming out of an adrenal fatigue situation, taking on more than that was to exhausting to think about. So for 3 months at noon every day - go to the gym - put on the clothes and... walk on the treadmill, which turned into the stair climber then the weight machines etc. It built until she got to the point where she was REALLY bored and could not progress without help. Enter her daughters swim conditioning coach Ron (yes Head Coach Ron). His advice? Come try CrossFit - for 3 months. And here she is 6 years later, still doing it, happily it turns out. Her pre conceived resistance to CrossFit was quickly overcome by connecting the head and the body with learning new complex movements, sprinkling in the gymnastics and then putting up with the parts like running.
A couple of years ago Jennifer started reviving her love of coaching (in the past was gymnastics, swimming and diving) with a CrossFit Level 1 and Gymnastics course and then coaching the odd class. Fast forward to May when Jennifer and her husband Dave took ownership of the gym formally known as Beach City CrossFit and started a new chapter!
